Overview of Myanmar Institute for Peace and Security (MIPS)
The Myanmar Institute for Peace and Security (MIPS) is a non-governmental, non-partisan “think-and-do-tank” providing principal stakeholders with the insight needed to navigate the opportunities and challenges of the ongoing peace and security transition in Myanmar.

Our primary areas of focus include:

  • Federalism and Constitutionalism
  • Security Dialogue in the Peace Process
  • The Township-based Conflict Monitoring System and Transitional Security Challenges
  • Decentralization and Peace-related Development

Duties and Responsibilities
Under the guidance of Executive Director Myanmar Institute for Peace and Security (MIPS) and supervision of Research Manager of Township-based Conflict Monitoring System (TCMS) Project, Research Assist is responsible to:

  • Gather peace and conflict related news and information from online media, print media and other available sources
  • Examine and code collected news and information into a dataset
  • Ensure encoded data is valid for statistical analysis
  • Assist supervisor in maintaining TCMS (Township-based Conflict Monitoring System) database, knowledgebase and other information management infrastructure
  • Assist supervisor in collecting geo-spatial data and attribute data for geo-spatial analysis
  • Assist supervisor in conducting research and assessments on conflict monitoring related issues
  • Travel to research locations and conduct qualitative interviews
  • Prepare meeting minutes and revisions as required
  • Provide administrative and logistics supports to the MIPS

Selection Criteria

  • Graduate degree or at least in college
  • Basic to moderate English proficiency
  • Proficiency to ethnic minority language preferred
  • 3 years of working experience preferred.
  • Demonstrates ethical standards and integrity
  • Willingness to learn and improve proficiency
  • Share the vision, goals, and objectives of MIPS
  • Attention to details
  • Displays cultural, gender, religion, race, age sensitivity and adaptability and
  • Treats all people fairly without favoritism.
  • Proficiency in ethnic minority language(s) will be appreciated (Women and ethnic minorities are encouraged to apply)
